The Wave Family Office

Families function as systems, where the behaviour and well-being of one family member affects all the rest – and the system as a whole. Healing from family trauma and establishing positive family dynamics are cornerstones of everyone’s well-being.

The Wave’s family office provides intensive programs that address the maintaining factors of challenging family dynamics in a home environment. Through a range of evidence-based treatment approaches, education and learning-by-doing, we facilitate transformative change.

Our family office offers seven, fourteen and twenty-one day programs for:

  • families of young people with borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, emotional dysregulation or self-harming behaviours
  • families looking to build nuanced social skills in autism spectrum presentations and ADHD
  • families of young people with an unsettled education history who require additional support in building structure and stability
  • families who have experienced infidelity, compulsive sexual behaviours, and separation or divorce
  • families leaving residential treatment and transitioning back home

Rescripting and transforming relations

One-to-One Collaboration at Specific Locations

Our family office offers something a bit different from our other programs. Rather than staying at our treatment space, families may work personally with The Wave’s operational director, Fiona Yiassin, at discrete locations worldwide, whether that’s a private villa, family home or a resort setting.

Navigating unfolding dynamics

Step-Down Care and Treatment in a Home Setting

For families with complex dynamics, residential treatment that works with a young person away from their home environment isn’t always a suitable option. Our family office programs work with the whole family, specialising in families with high levels of expressed emotion, such as hostility, criticism, or over-protection. Fiona Yiassin is currently researching a PhD in expressed emotion among families across the board.

Our family office programs are also available for families leaving residential treatment to support their transition back home. Families can navigate the unfolding dynamics of the home environment with the guidance and support of Fiona Yiassin.

With exceptional expertise and experience, we ensure that the progress and transformations of residential treatment are maintained and strengthened within the challenges of daily life.

Family Intensives and Parenting Workshops

One to Three-Week Family Intensives and Parenting Workshops for Young People Experiencing Psychological Distress

When a young person is experiencing intense distress, parenting can become more difficult. Young people start to act in ways that are outside of our understanding and the skills we have developed or naturally hold.

We often see these patterns in families of young people with borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, self-harm, high levels of emotional dysregulation, and other mental health concerns.

The Wave Clinic’s family intensive programs help parents return to their role as a parent, ensuring a strong start to the recovery process for both a young person and their family.

Sessions may take place with the whole family or through parent therapy workshops, depending on a family’s needs and formation.

Our family intensives include:

  • Understanding the history of a family and why certain dynamics may have developed
  • Looking at transgenerational trauma and its impact on family relationships and the family system
  • Exploring what parents can bring to the parenting role
  • Developing practical strategies to bring parents back to their parenting roles

Each day involves six hours of therapy and one hour of out-of-session reflection. Sessions can take place in-person or online, but we recommend in-person sessions where possible.

One to Three-Week Family Intensives for Infidelity, Compulsive Sexual Behaviours, Betrayal Trauma and Separation or Divorce

Deceptive sexual behaviours, infidelity and separation can rock the family system. These events can constitute unfolding trauma situations involving betrayal and loss of security. Family boundaries, structures, and dynamics can change, affecting the mental health of each family member.

Children are often those most affected by family trauma, but their needs are frequently overlooked.

At the Wave, we offer two to three-week family intensives for families impacted by family trauma, emphasising the well-being of all family members.

Our family intensives include:

  • addressing family dynamics, roles, and boundaries through evidence-based treatment approaches
  • parenting skills training
  • conflict resolution
  • rebuilding attachment
  • opportunities for learning by doing, creating new ways of relating through enriching experiences and incredible memories

Fiona Yassin is DSTT (Deceptive Sexuality and Trauma Treatment) trained by Dr Minwalla, applying the most specialised, up-to-date medical theory and practice to every family’s program.

Frequently asked questions

Family Office FAQs

You can email us at fiona@thewaveclinic.com for more information about our family intensive programs. We’ll arrange a preliminary phone call to ascertain your needs and see how we can best facilitate the next steps.

After our initial phone call, we’ll provide an initial assessment, including a psychological and psychiatric evaluation. During this process, we make sure that our programs, methods, and philosophy are a good fit for you and your family. Our primary focuses are safety and the capacity to build skills together. This helps us be sure that we can provide exceptional support for parents moving forward.

Once we’ve made sure that we’re a good fit, we’ll arrange a second online assessment to guide our treatment planning and arrange your program.

Our parenting intensive programs are available at our eating disorder service in Dubai and our outpatient treatment space in Kuala Lumpur.

During our family intensive programs, we can travel to your home or stay together at discrete locations worldwide.

You can also join us at our family office space in the Four Seasons hotel, Kuala Lumpur, or at a hotel or private villa of your choice near our specialist eating disorder treatment space in Dubai.

Many different types of family therapy have been analysed in research literature. Studies show that structural-strategic family therapy has a positive impact on family dynamics, dyadic relationships and individual family members among families with adolescent mental health concerns.

Research has also found that cognitive-behavioural family therapy can reduce parent-child and marital conflict and improve other aspects of family functioning. Other evidence-based family interventions include functional family therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy-family skills training (DBT-FST).

At The Wave, we use a combination of different treatment approaches tailored to suit each family’s needs. Through collaborative treatment planning, we work with families to find treatment techniques and methods that work for you.
